In ancient Greece, the anemone was associated with a legend about Cloris, the goddess of flowers, nicknamed Flora by the Romans. Flora had an affair with Zephyr, god of the West Wind, who had the specificity of spreading flower seeds. However, Zephyr fell in love with a nymph belonging to the goddess’ court: Anemone. Unfortunately, since the anemone only blossomed once a year, the god got tired of waiting and gave Anemone to the god of the North Wind: Boreas. When no love developed on the part of the young nymph, Boreas took offence and blew with all his might on the fragile flower, tearing off its petals.

From this sad story comes the legend that delicate anemones lose their petals and wither at the slightest breath of wind… Today, the anemone is associated with intense love, perseverance, affection and confidence.

Of Greek origin, the word geranium means crane’s beak, a symbol of wisdom for the Celts. In ancient times, birds were messengers of the divine. The will of the gods could be read in their flight. Thus, the cranes, curiously, during their migration, seemed to write letters on the vault of heaven, so ordered did their flight appear… The Celts offered their gods and goddesses Belisama, Belenos, Tamésis geranium flowers as offerings…

This geranium flower reveals a curious harmony between the plant, animal and celestial worlds… A flower to admire, to smell, to cultivate…

It is a flower that can be given to wish a good recovery, on Mother’s Day, for pleasure, or as a thank you.

Its meaning is also refined by the colour of its flowers. Red for obsessive love, white for pure love… So find the perfect handmade geranium jewel for your occasion! Don’t hesitate to adorn yourself with a set of jewels from the same collection, for a flowery vintage look!

Pansy: the flower that will make your jewellery colourful and fragrant!

In ancient times, the pansy was considered to be one of the most fragrant flowers in the countryside. Unfortunately, men trampled the meadows in search of it, destroying all the food for the animals. When the pansy noticed this, she prayed to God to release her from her scent in order to spare the animals’ food.

In England, it is known as the “tricolour grass”, because the original plant had three colours. The flower was thus seen as a symbol of the Christian Trinity and of romantic love. The pansy was also a symbol of remembrance, hence its name in French and Spanish (pensamiento). Offering pansies simply means: “I am thinking of you”. It adorns pink for fidelity, blue for trust, mauve for nostalgia, black for sorrow…

The Iris: the flower jewel with royal connotations!

Daughter of Thaumas and Electra and sister of the Harpies (winged goddesses), Iris was the messenger of the gods, bringing only good news. As she moved very regularly from Olympus to the land and the sea, Hera (Roman goddess) transformed her into a rainbow. In this way, she became a bridge between heaven and earth.

Iris, the flower, has many different species, with brilliant and rather varied colours, echoing the rainbow. The yellow iris, also called “water lily”, is known as the emblem of the great royal houses of France. Indeed, Clovis, King of the Franks, defeated enemies with these flowers. Since then, the king has adopted the flower as his symbol.

Its stylised representation with three petals frequently decorates coats of arms and many works of art. The iris symbolises confidence, wisdom, hope and courage. Wearing a Ciléa Iris jewel gives a feminine and colourful touch to your daily outfit!

In the Ciléa workshop, we only offer the Iris as a brooch. They are this year’s favourite large brooches for women. With or without stem, their success encouraged us to decline them in several colours so that there is for all the tastes. We offer customisable jewellery so please yourself!
